Join us for an exciting evening on Saturday, September 30th, for Woodward’s Grand Gold Celebration at 6 pm kicking off our 130th Year of educating women!
Enter the Roaring 20’s with us and dress to impress in your Great Gatsby best! Live music, cocktails, dinner and the celebration of impactful women in our community receiving Woodward’s First Impact Awards.
Woodward School is one of the first schools in the United States founded exclusively for girls. We are reputed to be the oldest continuously operating not-for-profit organization in Quincy, and we have endured for 129 years: - through World Wars, the Great Depression, recessions, and most recently, Covid-19.
Founded in 1869 by Dr. Ebenezer and Mary Woodward, our mission is to educate and empower young women in grades 6-12. Reaching back to the early history of the new republic, Dr. Woodward was the cousin and physician of President John Adams, and he treated members of the Adams family. Woodward and his wife, Mary Greenleaf, wanted an educated citizenry and conceived the future “Woodward School” as an educational institution “as fine as any other.”
When Woodward opened, our graduates could not vote, own land, or sign contracts, and were denied many other rights that we have today. In 2023, Woodward students enter a world of limitless opportunities and all of our graduates go on to college where they continue to excel as scholars and athletes, and give back to our community. Now, bridging three centuries, Woodward continues to provide a superior educational experience for girls from diverse backgrounds.
This event welcomes alumnae, current and past parents, friends of Woodward, business owners, professionals, public servants, people in the non-profit sector and citizens who believe in creating educational opportunities for young women.
